Working out at a high intensity level has been proven to be better for individuals with heart disease, diabetes, pulmonary vascular disease, arthritis and Parkinson’s disease when compared to regular aerobic activities. People with such diseases tend to limit themselves while engaging in any physical activity because they feel like they cannot participate in rigorous means of exercise. But in fact, High intensity interval training (HIIT) has been proven to be the most beneficial and rewarding means of exercise for most patients suffering with these diseases.

HITT involves 30 to 60 seconds of exercise near the peak of a person’s ability, followed by a comparable recovery period of easy activity, with the sequence repeated for a total of about 20 minutes, three times a week. Studies have shown that HIIT is effective in suppressing the many hindrances that accompany these chronic ailments.

The American Heart Association has stated that if a person continuously workout for 30 minutes, at a level of moderate exercise, five times a week, that individual’s health can be greatly improved. This information supports the idea that HITT can serve as almost a medication for patients suffering from chronic health problems. With a 12-week walking session in Denmark involving people with Type 2 Diabetes, trials have shown that this kind of high intensity exercise helped lower blood sugar levels.

However, having blood sugar levels that are severely low will cause the levels to decrease even more. Your blood sugar lowers after exercising because after you exercise, your body breaks down glucose. If you have diabetes, however, your pancreas can no longer release insulin to lower the amount of sugar in your blood. If people exercise with Type 2 Diabetes, they have to make sure that they take enough insulin so that their blood sugar does not reach levels below a certain threshold. When all of this is taken into consideration and applied at an individual level, HITT workouts are a very beneficial and quick way to burn calories and to gain muscle tone.
