Being a kindergartener and getting up on stage to sing the turkey song is a right of passage for Hewitt students. The Thanksgiving Assembly has been a tradition at The Hewitt School for decades. While the assembly does emphasize the kindergarteners time on stage, there are many other amazing and inspiring aspects to it.

This years assembly began with our student council president Alonnie J. ‘17 giving a speech about thanks. She emphasized female empowerment and why you should be thankful using different holiday foods to spell out thanks. We then heard many different and beautiful songs from the upper school choir, middle and lower schoolers. Among those songs was one written to Dr. Kinsey by the third grade. Towards the end, handbells gave a wonderful performance, the president and Vice President of middle school student council read poems written about thanks and giving by three middle school students.

Finally, Dr.Kinsey gave a wonderful speech emphasizing the thanks and gratitude we have in our community and our word of the year, feedback. Then came the famous turkey song. The kindergarteners fearlessly got up in front of the whole Hewitt School and sang with Ms.Lindberg leading them. The whole school and faculty then joined in to sing as we concluded the assembly.

The Thanksgiving assembly is a time for all students to appreciate our education, peers, family, teachers, and all different aspects of our life. This time of year is a time to give thanks and show gratitude for all we have.

The Hewitt Times wishes you a happy Thanksgiving!
