Welcome to the Journalism Summit, hosted by The Hewitt Times! I’m Becky Aydin, and I’m Susannah Meyer, and we’re the co-editors-in-chief of The Hewitt Times.

We’re thrilled to be hosting the first interschool journalism symposium to open dialogue among eleven New York City peer school publications: The Browning School’s Grytte, The Dalton School’s Daltonian, The Collegiate School’s Collegiate Journal, The Riverdale School’s Riverdale Review, The Fieldston School’s Fieldston News, The Marymount School’s Joritan, The Horace Mann School’s Horace Mann Record, The Brearley School’s Zephyr, The Trevor Day School’s Dragon, and The Spence School’s Spence Voice.

As an online publication, The Hewitt Times is constantly looking for innovative ways to expand readership, diversify our content, and ultimately maximize the user experience. Coming into our new positions as editors-in-chief this fall, we knew we wanted to collaborate with peer schools in order to create a network of resources and shared commitment to the field of journalism at the high school level. After months of planning and coordinating with all of you, here we finally are!

We have a fantastic and busy evening planned for all of you. We will be hearing from representatives of each attending publication, who will make a brief 3 to 5 minute presentation that highlights key aspects of their newspapers, from publication platform to staff structure to content organization. We are also honored to be hearing from two guest speakers: Taylor Trudon, Deputy Editor of Huffington Post Teen, and Erica Futterman, Managing Editor of Buzzfeed. There will be time at the end of all the presentations for free discussion and Q&A.

The Journalism Summit will take place tonight at The Hewitt School; over 60 students are registered to attend. Stay tuned to our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates throughout the evening!
