The second hardest thing to do during the winter (after getting out of bed, of course) is staying warm. But New York can be unpredictable and cruelly cold during the winter, hence Hewitt’s first-ever Dress Down/Dress Warmly day; those freezing gusts of winds make you forget what warm feels like. So, here are some tips to help you get through it:

1. Wear layers – this is definitely the most important tip for keeping warm. Having multiple thermal layers is much better than having one or two bulky layers. Wear leggings underneath your skirt instead of tights to keep your legs toasty on school days. Remember to wear a cardigan or sweater underneath your jacket. On the weekends, wear multiple shirts, like a short sleeved light shirt with a long sleeved shirt and a sweater. Layering is key, but don’t go overboard:

2. Drink something warm – Although it may not sound like it does much, drinking a warm beverage after toughing out very cold temperatures warms up your whole body instantly. Drinking warm hot chocolate, coffee, tea, or even soup lets you feel the warmth radiating through your body.

3. Snuggle – there’s nothing like cuddling under blankets on the couch and watching TV, talking with your family, or taking a nice afternoon nap. Take this opportunity to relax and be warm.

4. Find the hot spots – The coldest areas of your house will be the ones that have the most windows. Cold air sneaks in through the windows, so stay where it’s warmer if you’re cold!

Hopefully these small tips will help in the long run with keeping you warm throughout the winter. Stay toasty!
