Thanksgiving is almost upon us. I can nearly smell succulent turkey in the oven, sweet potato pie cooling down, and the abundant supply of stuffing coming my way. If you’re growing a little bored of mom’s traditional pumpkin pie on Thursday night, no worries! There are plenty of substitutions around the city that will satisfy your pumpkin desires.

During my usual Saturday afternoon venture to Forty Carrots, I found myself drifting away from my typical order of plain yogurt with Oreo crumble. Forty Carrots offers flavors of the day that I always seem to object, but I thought it was appropriate to get into the holiday spirit this season by tasting their pumpkin flavor.

The pumpkin flavor at Forty Carrots is something you don’t want to miss out on; its rich flavor leaves you wanting more by the end of your meal. It’s creamy, perfectly spiced, and heavy on the cinnamon: the perfect pumpkin treat to escape that traditional pie you’re tired of. Although I found it a bit ridiculous to eat frozen yogurt in such frigid weather, it’s completely worth it if you’re not afraid of the cold!

Another Thanksgiving treat I came across this past weekend was the Pumpkin Spiced Latte from Starbucks. This fall favorite is the perfect drink to ease the inevitable winter chill we’re feeling this week. People seem to love this warm treat, as I noticed it was a common order amongst the customers in line. Espresso blended with the fall spices of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove really does the trick. Why not top it off with sweet whipped cream and delicious pumpkin spices too? This drink will have customers lined up just to get a try; it’s a perfect on the go treat or even just a relaxing drink to indulge in.

Finally we have the pumpkin flavored muffin from Dunkin Donuts. Crunchy on the outside, yet moist on the inside, not too cold and not too hot, this treat was a personal favorite of mine. Topped with vanilla frosting and sweet streusel crumbs, you won’t be sorry after trying this. It isn’t too rich in pumpkin and cinnamon; actually, it has just the perfect amount!

This muffin is definitely the most enjoyable Thanksgiving treat I tried. The frozen yogurt was a bit too cold in such freezing weather and the pumpkin latte was satisfactory as well but not filling enough. The pumpkin muffin is filling, delicious and completely festive! So, make sure to stop by to your local Dunkin Donuts for an indulgence that will satisfy your sweet tooth.
