Watch out, Anne Hathway! Looks like these eight graders are taking over.

16 eighth graders took Lycee Francais’s stage by storm at their 9th annual Middle and High School Theater Festival on February 2nd. The competition consisted of two groups: the non-native speakers and the native speakers. The only rule was to act out a scene relative to the chosen theme: resistance. The eighth graders performed a scene from Les Miserables that showed the characters at the barricade resisting the rule of the French monarchy.

“They all did an amazing job, and it was an exciting day,” Madam Ostrow commented on the performance.  Throughout the day, eight schools performed their scene, and, at the end of the day, Hewitt was awarded with the best costumes, which were designed by a Hewitt mom, Ms. Cronin. Another award was given to Morgan Van Kesteren ’17 for best non-native actress.

“The girls had a great time! All the students and teachers were speaking French,” said Madam Ostrow. Jessie Stoller ’17, who was one of the 16 girls from Hewitt to perform that day, reflected on her experience and commented, “It was an incredible day of acting, performing, and French.”
