“I dream for a community in which a woman can take leadership as easily as a man.”

“My dream is to be in the C.I.A. or to be a superhero.”

“My dream is to figure out my dream.”

“My dream is to always be a kid, because that’s when I’m truly happy.”

“My dream is to always be evolving for as long as I live, no matter what that means.”

“I dream for a more accepting world in which everyone receives their own rights and their own voice.”

These are a few of the dreams of Hewitt students for themselves, their community, and the world. What’s your dream? Comment it below!

Dream Big… Then Do Something About It.

The phrase above is simultaneously powerful, inspiring, and frightening. If someone asked you what your dream was, you might not even fathom it being tangible. But what if it actually could be in your reach? That mindset is what TEDx is all about.

“Dream Big… Then Do Something About It” is the global theme for TEDxYouthDay. This past Thursday, the TEDxYouth@Hewitt curatorial team led a presentation to the upper school to introduce Hewitt’s upcoming TED event. Speakers of all different ages and from all over will come to our school to share their stories and dreams and to encourage others to carve similar paths. Check out the TEDxYouth@Hewitt video here!

Within “Dream Big… Then Do Something About It,” Hewitt’s individual theme is “The Power of One / The Power of All.” This expresses hope and inspiration, for the power of a collective community working together far surpasses that of one person. Global communities are coming together within just a few days to spread these important messages in hopes that the voices of youth can be heard.

TEDxYouthDay is a series of TEDx events that happen all around the world in late November, around Universal Children’s Day. The events are designed to empower and inspire young people, this time through hopes and dreams.

But this day stands as something greater than just one individual, one dream, and even one community. It represents going against the assumption that kids can’t create change. If you are ever told, “you’re too young,” “you’re only a kid,” or “ask your parents to help,” you shouldn’t let that deflect you from your goal, for those words are often said out of ignorance.

Although many of the speakers attending TEDxYouth@Hewitt have accomplished huge things, a dream can just be a spark, a hint of something great. Even the smallest dream can make a change, for it only takes one simple act to start a domino effect, and with the power of all, there are no limits as to what can be accomplished.
