While viewing photos from this year’s event, enjoy listening to the song that the Class of 2013 chose for the Senior Skate:

On November 12th, 2012, Hewitt held its annual ice skating party at Wollman Rink. The smell of chicken fingers and french fries filled the air while students, teachers, and parents glided on the ice under the moonlight. Personally, I return every year primarily for the unlimited hot cocoa. But, whether there is hot chocolate or not chocolate, skating with friends on a no-homework night can’t be anything but a good time.

The senior tent has always been exclusive, but this year I was lucky enough to be invited in and eat a few chocolate-covered strawberries from one of the Edible Arrangements bouquets. Anna Mendelson ’13 says, “While fearing condemnation by those who guard the senior stairs like their Bistro cookies, I am not a huge proponent of ‘exclusive’ senior spaces. I enjoy talking with students in other grades, and I don’t think they should be restricted from certain areas. There was way too much cake anyways!”

On the other hand, Alyssa Kirchenbaum ’13 says, “I think it is important for the seniors to take advantage of the few privileges that we are given.”

The senior tent and the center of the rink are two places most students do not dare enter without the appropriate qualifications. The circle is the area dedicated to serious skaters and their fancy tricks. I watched in awe as some of our very own Hewitt students twirled and whirled while dressed in their professional outfits. I was also quite pleased to see Harriet the Hawk shredding some ice. And I thought penguins were the only birds that could skate!
