Are you always craving homemade food? Do you spend a lot of time in the winter searching for the perfect food recipe to get through the cold weather? Winter has arrived and what better way to spend it  than cooking classic homemade recipes. Here are three fun recipes from Hewitt faculty with an added twist to help satisfy your hunger. These recipes are easy and don’t require any culinary school training to create! Just whip up these dishes, pop them in the oven, and enjoy!

  1. Señor Grey, Upper School Spanish teacher,  recommends this fabulous Canadian pork pie which is a popular dish served at Christmas or New Years’. You can find the recipe here.

  2. Mr. Sarmentio, College Guidance Counselor and Director of Experiential Learning, recommends a nice and easy recipe from Pillsbury dough that could be a snack or a desert. You can find the recipe here.

  3. Lastly, Mr. Kochyan, Middle and Upper School French teacher,  recommends a classic homemade Armenian cookie recipe, that is sure to impress both family and friends. Look at the recipe below:

    SERVINGS 60   YIELD 60 Cookies

  • ¼ cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 cups of butter at room temperature
  • Preheat oven to 275.
  • Beat butter and egg with mixer until white and fluffy.
  •   Add sugar and vanilla and beat well.
  • Add 4 cups flour one cup at a time.
  • Add more flour 1/4 cup at a time until dough is no longer sticky.
  •   Roll out 1/4 at a time to a long rope, 1/2 inch thick. Dough can be colored with food coloring or decorate with sprinkles.
  • Slice on the diagonal about 2 inches long and place on a cookie sheet sprayed with PAM.
  • Bake for about 20 minutes, until slightly firm. Do not allow to brown
  • Dust with powdered sugar as desired.
