With Thanksgiving this week and the rest of the holiday season just around the corner, “food babies” are inevitable. Overeating on Thanksgiving is usually considered a requirement, but wearing our eating habits isn’t. As a preemptive strike, I have some tips to banish those unwelcome food babies!

1. Go for a walk. Exercising not only makes you feel less full, but the fresh air will also help you get away from the powerful and irresistible odor of food. Try taking a walk with a family member or a friend after your (first?) dinner, but make sure you bundle up if you’re staying in New York City!

2. Get away from the food! By either moving yourself to a different room or by getting the food off the table, the simple movement will wake up your metabolism and help you feel better. If you’re feeling up to it, start a game of Wii Tennis with your family members to get things moving.

3. Get some sleep. Sleeping will give lots of time for your food baby to disappear and you will most likely wake up feeling much better–possibly even hungry. Relaxing can also be helpful, like watching a movie with your family to forget all about your food baby (the dimmed lights won’t hurt either).

4. Give it time. Although these tips can help, the best thing to alleviate your food baby is allowing your digestive system to do its thing. It will eventually go away, so don’t fret too much. Just make sure that you don’t let it get too big if you have another commitment a few hours later.

Enjoy feasting and try to control your food babies!
