My Postmates delivery
My Postmates delivery.

It’s 10:30 PM on a Tuesday night. You’ve been studying for your AP biology test for hours. You’re tired; you know you have to keep studying, but a quick break is much needed. You’re also hungry, craving something to push you through the final stretch of your tedious studies. A medium cup of dreamy cake batter ice cream mixed with rainbow sprinkles, Kit-Kats, cookie dough, and hot fudge from Cold Stone Creamery would do the trick, but you know your desire is unrealistic. After all, there are no store locations near your house.

But wait, you’re in luck! Your once unattainable craving can now be realized thanks to the newly released iOS application, Postmates!

Postmates is taking NYC and college campuses across the country by storm, giving thousands of people the ability to access their favorite foods quickly and conveniently without ever having to leave the comfort of their own homes. Since its launch this July in New York, Postmates has been conveniently satisfying its customers.

Postmates is an on-demand delivery service, brought to you by the simple click of a button. Here’s how it works:

  1. Decide exactly what you want to order. You may have to look up the menu for the restaurant yourself because the app doesn’t provide you with one.
  2. Search. Postmates isn’t only limited to restaurants. If you need something picked up from a department store or groceries from the supermarket, this app works for that, too!
  3. Place your order. Be descriptive. If you want a side of ketchup to make your Shake Shack burger complete, include that when you write in your order.
  4. Postmates will pair you up with a courier after you’ve placed your order. The app will give you his or her name and number, so you can easily contact your delivery person.
  5. Eagerly await your delivery. You can track your courier on the live map and impatiently check in to see how many more minutes you have to wait in agony for your order to arrive at your doorstep.
  6. Eat up!

Too good to be true, right? Is there a catch? How about the price? Though you are charged six dollars for every hour the delivery takes, the price is pretty fair for such a great deal since the your Postmate is usually at your service within one hour. Don’t trust me? Take it from the Postmate site itself: “Postmates is available 16 hours a day, seven days a week. Order from 8:00am – midnight and get breakfast, team lunch, dinner, late night snacks, office supplies, electronics, last minute gifts, you name it.”

Postmates couriers are regular people, often with other jobs, who have enough enthusiasm and flexibility to deliver your desired items. To be eligible to be a Postmates courier, you must fulfill a few requirements. For a successful application, you must be familiar with the city you’re delivering in, have your own mode of transportation like a van, bike, scooter, or car, and you have to be 18 or older (after school activity for some of you seniors?).

So, whether it’s the satisfaction of getting your favorite snack without going outside or the relief of getting a flower delivery for your parents’ anniversary just in time, Postmates is an app that won’t disappoint.
