I guess Miley Cyrus truly got the best of both worlds as she once played the part of a praised teen star and quickly transformed into a raunchy “twerk queen.”

Hannah Montana first appeared on television in 2006, depicting the life of Miley Stewart, a young teenager trying to lead a double life, hiding the fact that she was a pop star. Miley Cyrus immediately gained a tremendous amount of success from the show, causing her to become one of the most well-known child stars of all time. Young girls began to look up to her, idolizing her as an exemplary role model. Her songs were catchy and caught the media’s attention, making “Nobody’s Perfect” an anthem for all of her fans.

As she grew up, we started to see Miley drift away from that famous blonde wig slowly but surely. In 2010, The Last Song hit the big screens. The movie portrayed a love story between a charming (and not to mention hunky) Will, played by Liam Hemsworth, and Ronnie, a rebellious teen played by Miley.  When the movie came out, we saw the same sweet Miley we all knew and loved but with a little more maturity.

Miley really started pumping up the party in August of 2012 with her new hairdo shocking millions of fans. Since the pixie cut, things took a turn for the worst. The new hair created a new image for Miley, and the blonde wig became just a distant, unrelated memory. Videos and photos surfaced on the web of Miley twerking in a unicorn costume. And in her recent summer hit, “We Can’t Stop,” Miley talks about provocative topics like “doing lines in the bathroom” and “dancing with molly.”

Miley’s really got nerve now. Her recent VMA performance left viewers stunned as she pranced around stage practically in nude toned undergarments. If that wasn’t enough, Robin Thicke joined the party, adding his song “Blurred Lines” to the performance that would make headlines, tweets, and statuses all over the world. Adam Levine even took to Twitter to react to Miley’s performance tweeting, “Last night was less of a Miley performance and more of a funeral of Hannah Montana.”

In recent news, Liam Hemsworth, Miley’s fiancée who proposed to her in 2012 after they co-stared in The Last Song,  has broken off the engagement in response to her new image. When they first fell in love, she was at her peak, poised and graceful. But towards the end of their relationship, she completely switched paths; apparently Hemsworth decided realized this was not what he had signed up for.

It seems like child stars are taking over headlines these days, like Amanda Bynes’s twitter controversy, Lindsay Lohan’s multiple visits to rehab, and even Zac Efron’s new and recently discovered drug addiction. Why do child stars turn out to be this way? We have to accept that they will eventually grow up and break away from their characters of Hannah Montana or Troy Bolton as well as their squeaky-clean images, but does this have to be the path that they choose?
