Let’s face it, at over three hours long and with categories like Best Documentary Short, the Academy Awards broadcast is more of a snoozefest than the exciting event it’s often made out to be. Except for one thing: the fashion. More is written about who wore what and what hairstyle is in than who actually walked out with a gold statuette on their hands. I am sure more people could tell you about Anne Hathaway’s questionable dress choice than could remember Curfew was the winner in the Best Live Action Short category.

So, onto the really important task at hand: Oscar fashion recap. My favorite dress of the evening was the beautiful custom Dior gown worn by Jennifer Lawrence (not a surprising designer choice; she is the new face of the brand, after all). Despite the struggle she faced every time she took a step (as made evident by her fall), she looked stunning. A couple of the evenings trends included silver sequins (bringing new meaning to Silver Linings Playbook) and different shades of white. Some sparkly standouts were Naomi Watts in an asymmetrical Armani Prive, Halle Berry in Versace, and Jessica Chastain, also in Armani Prive. Even First lady Michelle Obama was on trend with her metallic number by  Naeem Khan. Shining beacons in white included Charlize Theron in Dior Couture and Zoe Saldana in Alexis Mabille Couture.

The cutest outfit everything award goes to Quvenzhané Wallis. The youngest Oscar Best Actress nominee ever looked absolutely adorable in a navy blue Armani dress accented with black tulle and rhinestones. And, of course, she finished off the look with one of her signature pooch purses.

Some welcome surprises included Jennifer Aniston trading in her signature black dress for a bright and bold red Valentino, and nominee Helen Hunt wearing an elegant navy sheath from – get ready – H & M!! My favorite couple of the evening had to be Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, they looked amazing and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Garner was wearing an exquisite plum colored Gucci dress embellished with delicate ruffles down the back. As always, her hair and makeup looked natural and radiant.

The fashion scandal of the evening revolved around Anne Hathaway and her last minute dress swap. Apparently, after discovering that her Les Miserables costar, Amanda Seyfried, was going to be wearing a gown eerily similar to the Valentino gown she was set to wear, Hathaway went with a controversial, pale pink Prada. Let’s just say Twitter pages were created to address some parts of her body that were a little too visible. Hathaway has since apologized for the switch, for Valentino had sent out press releases ahead of Sunday’s broadcast announcing that she would be wearing one of the designer’s creations.

All in all, the evening’s looks were very old Hollywood, glamorous and elegant. Not one Bjork swan dress or see through Cher debacle in sight! Until next year….
