Chandeliers, shag carpets, and wallpaper  are just a few of the accessories that many 6th graders have been installing to personalize their lockers. This is a trend that the middle school takes very seriously, but the 6th graders have been splurging in new ways this year.

Maddie-Kate Kaufman ‘17 stated, “I like decorating my locker because it makes it look cool and interesting. No one else has this pretty wallpaper, so it’s unique.”

As for the chandeliers, they may sound like a ridiculous addition to a metal locker, but they light up a locker so you can see all your books and decorations. Some 6th graders explained that the carpets keep their books comfortable. Having a whiteboard hanging on a wall in a locker also is very popular. Friends can write messages, phone numbers and notes-to-selves on them. The locker bins are the perfect accompaniment, for they hold stationary. Decorating lockers make middle school students feel like they can express themselves with their own personal style, right here in the halls of Hewitt.
