As heard at convocation:

To the entire Hewitt community: welcome back! I am very excited, as the representative of all Hewitt students, to welcome you as we start the school year. I trust that you all had a relaxing and memorable summer. Last year was a year of change for Hewitt; from the changes in the administration to having a new school mascot, Maggie, Hewitt evolved. However, I truly believe that during this 2011-2012 school year, Hewitt’s best days are ahead of us. Changes such as the layout of the Stacks Room, the new Student Boards, and Hewitt’s expansion to 76th Street are indicative of the things to come.

I invite you to all think of these new changes in a way that will allow you to embrace them. Change will not affect everyone in the

same way, but it is important to approach new changes with the cooperation, compromise, and flexibility needed to help these changes become a positive part of Hewitt’s future. There are chances for new opportunities this year, and you should take advantage of them. Hewitt is a united community, and I challenge all of you to have a positive spirit and to be inspired, as we make new ground this year. In a school this small, we have the opportunity to learn from and appreciate one another through support and continued respect. In this year of continued change, we should encourage one another in ways that are new to us. Whether it is going to this year’s fall production of “All In The Timing,” to a Junior Varsity Volleyball game, to the Lower School concert, go stand by your peers. Exploring new aspects of the Hewitt Community may spark your interests for the future and inspire you to become involved in something beyond your comfort zone.

As president of Student Council, I encourage you all to approach your Student Council representatives with your opinions and ideas for both this upcoming year, and the future. You all have a voice, and Student Council provides a window for you. This year, our goal is to represent your opinions and interests both as individuals and as a school.

We are welcome the new members of our community with a message to all: Hewitt is where you will grow academically, socially, and personally in ways yet unknown to you. I look forward to working with you all this year.
