As the school year reaches its end, seniors have one thing on their minds: prom.  Many questions may arise when thinking about prom.  Who am I going to go with?  How am I going to style my hair?  Whose family is going to host pre-prom?  And, most importantly, what the heck am I going to wear?!

The prom dress selection process is crucial in and of itself, each girl wanting to find that perfect fit.  I had the opportunity to interview several seniors in the Stacks Room (fyi, where the prom-talk showdown goes down).

Amanda Gorfine said, “If you’re buying a dress for your own prom, you can look as amazing as you want, but if it’s someone else’s, you don’t want to upstage them.  It’s important, though, to feel like a princess.”

It’s not just about how the dress looks on you, but about making sure no one else is wearing the same dress.  The seniors all agreed that it’s best to shop at boutiques rather than a department store, because there is a better chance of someone else having the same dress as you from a store like Bloomingdale’s or Saks Fifth Avenue.

To ensure that they don’t run into someone else with the same dress, the Hewitt seniors created a Facebook group in which each girl posts pictures of their dress.

Colby Giordano says she looks for dresses that fit well, while Rachel Fechter looks for sparkles. Elena Gelber keeps a more practical restriction in mind while shopping for that perfect dress: being able to breathe in it.

What will the girls end up wearing?  Who’s going to have that Kodak moment?   Only time will tell…
