We knew we would hear interesting and inspiring ideas at TEDxYouth@Hewitt this Saturday, but we had no idea we would be receiving some fashion inspiration as well.  From those sporting their own designs to those decked out in TED red (and black) from head-to-toe, TEDx attendees brought fashion to action. Check out some social activists’ must-haves here.

Jessica Wolfsohn ’14

Who says parents are unfashionable? This Saturday, Jessica proved them all wrong once and for all, revamping pieces from her parents’ closets and adjusting them to fit her individual style. She wears her dad’s coat and her mom’s black tank top while carrying an old Disney World sweater in hand. She juxtaposes these vintage items with a Forever21 skirt and floral Dr. Martens shoes. Last but not least, she adorns her hand with a Duane Reade mood ring. What an eclectic mix!

Speaker, Tyree “TOPDOLLAR” Dumas

Here we see TOPDOLLAR proudly wearing a shirt created by one of his 11-year old DOLLARBOYZ members. He pairs this with jeans he designed himself for the DOLLARBOYZ line and sneakers from VILLA, a retailer that seeks to make a positive difference in the world. How cool is that?!

Chinelo Okpala ’14

Chinelo is seen here turning a scarf, gifted from her mother, into an adorable headband…do I spot a parent fashion #trend starting among Hewitt juniors? Chinelo also loves to mix-and-match her brands. Here she pairs a scarf and shirt from H&M with jeans and boots from Guess.

Wagner senior, Jay Lucero

High School senior Jay Lucero has found the perfect combination of preppy and chic. Here he pairs a Forever 21 leather studded bag with a Ralph Lauren shirt. He was #spotted talking to a few Hewitt students, all of whom seemed quite inspired by his keen sense of style. On the next “last Friday of the month” (dress-down day), keep an eye out for some Jay Luc-a-likes.

Speaker, Emma Axelrod

Emma was not only the youngest speaker at this years TEDxYouth@Hewitt conference, she was one of our favorite style icons as well! She is seen here wearing a GAP shirt and army pants, along with some super-chic Nine West boots. She ties the whole look together with an adorable turquiose Anthropologie sweater. We look forward to seeing her grow as a prominent member of both the political and fashion worlds.

Skye Malik ’15

Skye, member of Hewitt’s very own tech team, used red Splat hair dye to show her support for the TED event…ok, maybe the matching hair wasn’t totally intentional, but it works!

Editor’s note: Author Grayson Brower sported a very TED-appropriate outfit as well. She (purposefully) layers leggings, Dr. Marten’s, and a casual red dress with a TEDxYouth@Hewitt T-shirt: a perfect balance of TED colors red and black.
