The Gallery Walk, an annual event on Madison Avenue, had a new unofficial addition this year.  This gallery  included works of several different mediums, from paintings to ceramics to videos; the works were reflections of the extraordinary development and ability of the artists, and the spectacle was none other than The Hewitt School Upper School Art Show.

The purpose of the art show is to showcase the amazing works of all Upper School artists.  This year’s art show, attendees agreed, was the best yet.  Not only was the work amazing, but the risks that many of the artists took were equally admirable.  Each piece had a deeper meaning that related to the general theme of the project: for example, junior Elleni Guzman’s works’ theme was disgust, which all of her works portrayed very well.

Months of time and planning were put into ensuring this art show’s success.  Teachers and students alike worked tirelessly to make sure that their works were finished and perfected on time.   Mr. Rose explained, “Well, this is 4½ months of work.”

Many artists decided to explore new mediums to portray their themes for the evening.  For example, junior Alexandra Warrick not only created both a sculpture and painting to portray her theme, but also did so through an experimental video.

The art show is an opportunity for artists to see all of their works together.  It is exciting and scary, but mostly, the artists are truly grateful for the opportunity to share their work with the Hewitt community.  It would truly be a crime to miss an art show of this magnificence; our school art show could have easily been the next stop on the gallery walk.
