The Middle School Student Council has been working on a lot of great things this year. We brought back the debate team and ITS (International Thespian Society) Club, also known as the drama club. We cleaned up the roof to make a more pleasant recess for the younger grades. We are also in the works of starting up a Community Service Club, improving the lunch menu and environment, adding snacks to our break periods, and creating a calendar to be pinned up on each floor with all Middle School events.

The Council was split up into five committees: Break/Recess/Snack, Sustainability, Spirit, Announcements, and Finance. The Break/Recess/Snack Committee is working hard to get snacks provided during break for all grades. The Sustainability Committee is trying to get frozen yogurt cones and toppings, hot chocolate and tea, and more kid-friendly lunches served in the Bistro. They are also working on having a bike rack in front of school to promote eco-friendly ways of transportation. The Spirit Committee is trying to start up a “Volunteer Club,” which would consist of either coming into school early or staying after school to help out with the maintenance crew or chefs in the cafeteria; this is a way to bring the Hewitt community together.

The Announcements Committee is in the midst of creating a calendar to raise awareness about upcoming events, including forums, sports events, theatrical performances, and more. These calendars will be found on the bulletin boards on each floor of the Middle School. Finally, the Finance Committee is going to be hosting a bake sale soon to raise money to buy a shed. This shed would be used to store recess supplies on the roof, like jump ropes, balls, and hula hoops. We have accomplished a lot so far, and I look forward to continue to lead the rest of the Middle School in achieving even more positive changes.
