Before YouTube was created in 2005, there were few ways to share videos and songs across the web. The creation of YouTube allowed anyone who had internet access to post or watch videos. People watch YouTube to stay connected to the world. If something happens on TV that you want to watch it again, you can count on YouTube. If you want to hear a new song that just came out, you can hear it there. Additionally, many people get discovered on YouTube, such as Justin Bieber, Greyson Chance, and Jessie J. Today, YouTube is the second most-visited site on the web.

Many videos on YouTube go viral, and get over a million views in just a few days. According to wikipedia, a viral video is defined as one that “becomes popular through the process of internet sharing.” One example of a viral video is “Friday”, by Rebecca Black . It received over one million views overnight, 167 million views in total, and 3.1 million dislikes. Members on YouTube are able to “like” or “dislike” videos as well as comment on videos in order to share their opinions.

Another viral video is “Charlie Bit my Finger,” about an adorable little boy and his younger brother Charlie. This video has received over 3 million views. Although nothing of consequence happens in the video, videos involving babies frequently go viral because, well, they’re adorable.

The most watched video on YouTube,”Baby, by Justin Bieber” has reached over 6 million views. However, there are more dislikes than likes.

Other videos that have gone viral include “Where’s the Chapstick?,” “Sitting on the Toilet,” “3 Year Old Crying Over Justin Bieber,” and “Baby Laughing”. How many views on these videos are you responsible for?
