As a group of students walked into the locker room, they were expecting to see the usual red cubbies that lined the old walls. Instead, they were pleasantly surprised by gleaming, new metal lockers that would soon hold their bags before lunch and during P.E. class. “Lockers? In the locker room?” one student said, covering her mouth and gasping. The students were so confused; they

had to pinch themselves to make sure they weren’t imagining this dream.

Recently, The Hewitt School received a locker room upgrade that has had most of the students all-smiles for the past two weeks. The new improvements include 42 new lockers, a new black and white floor, and no bench, opening the room up to allow for much more space to change.

Although the majority of students are happy with the changes, some students, such as Addie Dubov ’15, believe that these changes are not worth all the fuss. She stated, “The new lockers are annoying. My bag doesn’t fit, and neither does my laptop!” When asked if she liked the new lockers or the cubbies, she said, “This improvement is cleaner and more spacious, but it is less convenient for those with large bags and many textbooks.”

Natalia Ryzak ’15, stated, “This is a good start, but I think there is still room for more improvements as the year progresses. I think there needs to be more room for people to fit inside the locker room, and there needs to be more room for clothing, bags, laptops, and textbooks.”

From shock to realization, students at The Hewitt School have mixed emotions towards the new lockers in the locker room. Looks like we will just have to see how the students adjust to the new locker room and keep an eye on any new changes!
